Hi, everyone! My name is Shannon Tong, and I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and a minor in Education from the University of California, Santa Barbara in June 2020. In addition, I recently graduated with my Master’s in Education (Instruction and Curriculum) as well as my Multiple Subjects Preliminary Credential from San Jose State University in December 2021. Yay for graduating two times during the pandemic! Since joining LASD, I was a student teacher, reading intervention specialist, and a substitute teacher for a variety of grade levels. I am super excited to be joining the Springer community as a fifth grade teacher this upcoming school year!

Beyond education, I am very proud to say that I am extremely active when it comes to cultural engagement in my Asian American community. I previously held various leadership positions in a Vietnamese-American organization in college, for which I am still an alumni advisor for. I also am a choreographer of Vietnamese traditional dance, and I love traveling—which are all rich experiences that I love to bring back to my classroom to help build the background knowledge of my students.
