Title:
1st Grade Teacher
Kiwi Capriles

Hi! My name is Kiwi Capriles. I am thrilled to be teaching first grade in the Los Altos School District. When I was in fourth grade, I had the opportunity to help students in lower grades with math. That was when I knew teaching was my calling. Some of the experiences which make me the teacher I am today include: educating students in grades K, 1, 2, 4, and 5; teaching at Title One, charter and public schools; taking ongoing educational courses; raising three sons; being a stay-at-home mom for 11 years; participating in a parent cooperative preschool; teaching for 20 years; and being married for nearly three decades. Even with all of these opportunities and years of learning and growth, students still teach me every day! I admire and adore their honesty, curiosity, energy, awe, and joy. My teaching is marked by an appreciation, energy, and sensitivity to each unique individual – students, parents, and colleagues. My classes are noted for vitality of student expression, respect for individualism, academic rigor, and development of confident independence. I am passionate about student engagement, growth in critical and creative thinking, along with fostering a love of learning. Teaching is my passion! It is easy to bring and give all I have to offer because I am surrounded and supported by the most dedicated, enthusiastic, brilliant, and child-centered educators one can find. My husband, Bob, and I, will soon celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We are the proud parents of three wonderful sons, ages 25, 21, and 17. I am a native Californian who loves gathering with family, cooking, walking the beach, gardening, reading, and organizing. I am also an irrepressible board game player.
